Bonafide Orthopaedic Nursing Educational Symposium (BONES)
Registration Fees: $60 Students $70 UCSD and NAON members (please provide your NAON membership # on checks memo line) $80 outside attendees. A $20.00 fee will be assessed for registrations postmarked after October 12th, 2009.
Bonafide Orthopaedic Nursing Education Symposium (BONES) is for all healthcare providers (RN, LVN, NA, OT, PT, MSW, Ortho Techs, Students and Case Managers) working with or interested in care of orthopaedic patients. It is the only event of its type in the San Diego region. It has been growing each year and we are anticipating over 250 attendees. This full day fun filled educational day includes speaker and poster presentations as well as hands on exhibits from all of the regions hospitals, vendors and a sampling of county’s emergency vehicles. The attendees expand their knowledge of prevention and care of orthopaedic and traumatic injuries in an energized atmosphere. The appropriately themed event (BONES) occurs on October 30th, the day before Halloween, which is also International Orthopaedic Nurses Day. It also carries a co-theme of the keynote speaker. For example 2008 was themed with skeletons for orthopaedics and Halloween and co-themed as Olympics. The day is organized by nurses from the Orthopaedic Units at both of UCSD’s Medical Centers and won the distinction by ADVANCE for Nurses Magazine: Best Nursing Team of the Year 2008 Past keynote speakers include local TV and News personality Marti Emerald and a Beijing Olympics Silver Medalist, Hyleas Fountain. The day is set up to allow touring of the vendor area and emergency vehicle staging area prior to the symposium presentations and at extended breaks and lunch. It is also intended to be a low cost educational offering to the healthcare community and relies on sponsor support. 2009 BONES These are the topics we are tentatively arranging for this years symposium.
